Wilton's Music Hall, London 1 October 2011

I was able to attend part of this concert (double booked with an Indian arangetram at Bhavan UK) and admired particularly the evening's soloist, the Kreutzers' violist Morgan Goff*, in solo pieces of Lennox Berkeley [L], and soloist in the Hindemith Trauermusik for viola and strings, which was composed, played and broadcast all in a day upon King George V's death, which occured when Paul Hindemith happened to be in London (I heard its premiere then!).

Also, a welcome opportunity to hear again Rawsthorne's marvellous violin duo; I had known this from the first recording, but this account, helped by the acoustic of Wilton's - one of London's best for chamber music - surpassed my memories of it. Rawsthorne, rather overshadowed nowadays, is a marvellous original composer who can be recognised from just a few bars of his music.
