Haydn: Piano Sonatas Vol 3

Marc-André Hamelin

Hyperion: CDA67882 [2 discs]

I found a few of these dull, and since I really can no longer enjoy playing, or listening to, Haydn on modern piano - q.f. Hamelin in recital.

I cannot share of IRR's opinion that this studio recording (impeccable, of course, given Hamelin's consummate pianism) "brings to mind the delicacy and finesse cultivated by pianists who are willing to risk anything to make Rameau and Couperin work on a modern Steinway".

If you're not persuaded by the HIP revolution, treat yourself to Tom Beghin's great box alongside Hamelin's Steinway (to which as a Steinway Artist he is committed) and amaze yourself !
