Two pleasant light-weight videos from EuroArts.

The Berlin Phil's cellists give a documentary history of the group's formation and international success.
The present line-up discuss their life and their activities.

The concert programme is however unashamedly populist. It does not persuade me that twelve cellos sound better than eight (Concerto Iberico Amsterdam) or bears comparison with the subtleties and satisfactions of string quartet.

The BPO/Rattle programme is likewise populist and inaccurately titled - I was attracted by "Dvorak Symphonic Dances" which I didn't know, but they don't exist ! We got instead two of the popular Slavonic Dances.

The only reason to purchase this is for a good account of the Grieg concerto by Kissin.
